The young team running the yMedia Challenge are inspiring in their creativity and implementation of a successful community work experience placement programme.
Aimed at increasing community groups' knowledge and use of information communication technology, the scheme is equally beneficial to the participating tertiary students in that the eight week challenge sees them creating solutions, designing and completing projects within competitive deadlines. With the challenge of creating media/digital based solutions for the community group, each student team is supported by a mentor who has experience within the digital and marketing industry. The guidance offered by the mentor often proves invaluable to the students who are, for the most part, working within real life restrictions for the first time. This year 12 projects were undertaken involving 35 students from Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. The winners were announced at a special yMedia Awards Dinner held in August this year and already the yMedia team are preparing for the 2010 challenge.
The Print House Team swung into action - we provided the quotes and, as they are a non-profit organisation supporting and promoting media students, we offered to provide the large cheques and vouchers free of charge. The Awards Programme, cheques and vouchers were printed, folded and bound in record time and personally delivered in the same evening. "THANK YOU again..." exclaimed Jade in a follow-up email. "The yMedia Awards was awesome, everything ran as smooth as can be, despite the stress leading up to it... We are ALL extremely happy with the result, good quality paper, perfect gsm choice, good quality inks, and the service is second to none. Thanks to you and your team at Print House." Print House congratulates the team at yMedia on their ongoing efforts to extend the learning opportunities of media students.
