Growing up in South Africa, Sandy Geyer has witnessed the fall of Apartheid, the rise of the ANC government and, ultimately, the progressive decline of the country's infrastructure.
From the time when Nelson Mandela was freed in 1990 until the 2009 elections, much has happened in South Africa to the perception of freedom promised and longed for during the turbulent days of the 1970's and 1980's. Few of us can imagine what it must be like to find that freedom has become so fraught with danger that the only option left open is to leave your homeland and seek a new life on the other side of the world. In her book, "My Long Flight From Freedom", Sandy recollects her experiences of life in her homeland and her decision to emigrate to New Zealand. Her writing is frank and descriptive giving an honest, humorous and courageous account of her journey as a white South African woman. Her personal experiences and challenges provide many insights into why so many South Africans' new found freedom has simply led to heartbreaking sacrifices made as they felt powerless to stay behind in a country ravaged by violence. As Managing Director of a successful publishing business Sandy is already familiar with liaising with printers however this is her first personal publication. "Of the three printing companies I approached with what had become an urgent print turnaround requirement, Print House and one other were quick to respond. "Stephen O'Toole [Print House Sales Manager] took a personal interest in the book which gave me the feeling that he understood my needs. This confidence was the deciding factor for me. "I was very impressed with the Print House premises and the layout and professional yet friendly atmosphere reminded me very much of my own company," said Sandy. "From the time I met with Stephen and was given a tour of the premises I have felt like a valued client. I certainly hope to work with Print House again in the near future." The 144 page book was ideally suited for the inside pages to be printed on Print House's Komori Lithrone perfecting unit on 90gsm Sapphire stock. The four colour cover was printed on Superfine Hi-Gloss 285gsm stock and finished with a gloss laminate. For more information contact Allcopy Publishers New Zealand office - 07 856 1276.
