Avalon Industries is an enterprise of Avalon Incorporated which was initiated in 1976 by a group of socially minded businessmen.
Originally called Equality BOP Incorporated, the organisation began as a woodworking operation providing work opportunities for people with a disability. Equality produced approximately 2 million kiwifruit trays a year.
Within ten years the organisation was ready to expand and purchased an orchard, known as Avalon Orchards, which prompted the adoption of the current name, Avalon Incorporated.
Avalon has grown a great deal since its beginnings and today has a variety of business enterprises including arts and crafts, orchards, hospitality and function services, sewing and textiles, a park facility and packaging and assembly solutions.
It is the packaging and assembly unit, known as Avalon Industries, that Print House has occasion to work with.
A recent visit to Avalon Industries by Stephen O'Toole (Sales Manager, Print House), Jim Grainger (Operations Manager, Print House) and Lennie Williams (Sales Executive, Print House) provided enlightening insight to the valuable role Avalon plays for people with disabilities whilst delivering a diverse range of business solutions.
General packaging and assembly services include, but are not limited to, flow-wrapping, collating, shrink wrapping and now also extend to an in-house mail-house.
Following a tour of the facility in action it was obvious to the Print House delegation that the term 'disability' in reality means 'opportunity' for those involved with Avalon.
Print House congratulates Avalon Incorporated on continuing to develop business opportunities to create employment for people with disabilities and look forward to a long working partnership with Avalon Industries.
