At just four years of age, Aberdeen Kindergarten's Lincoln Kirkby already appreciates the benefits of networking... and we're not talking about social networking on the internet!
This astute pre-schooler recently set into action a chain of events which lead to Print House becoming a contributor to a special Kindy project.
When his teacher at Aberdeen Kindergarten explained to the class about plans to create a Taniwha statue in the playground, and that the required materials included lots of shredded paper, Lincoln's ears pricked up.
Having previously visited Print House with his mother, Lincoln knew immediately where a good supply of shredded paper could be found! He promptly asked his mum if she could contact her friend at Print House, Anna Whitmore, to ask for assistance. Anna was impressed with the initiative shown by Lincoln and gladly arranged for a number of rubbish bags to be filled with off-cuts otherwise destined for the recycling bin. The modelling mixture consisted of paper, clay, concrete, water, and other natural materials which were shaped and molded into an interpretation of the mythical M“ori Taniwha. Paua shell eyes, pumice for the spikes on it's head, and decorative stones complete this fascinating creation which resides in the playground at Aberdeen Kindergarten.
