Dr Kevin Moran is a Principal Lecturer in Health and Physical Education at the University of Auckland.
With over 35 years experience as a senior surf lifeguard on Auckland's rugged west coast it is obvious he is passionate about things aquatic and, in particular, water safety.
He has written many surf and water safety programmes for schools. Earlier this year he was awarded a Distinguished Service Award for services to surf life saving by Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
Dr Moran's recently completed thesis, 'The Shaping of Swimming and Water Safety Education in New Zealand', retraces the historical development of swimming and water safety education from as early as 1840 and explores its developments right through until today.
It is hoped the book will inform not only social and educational historians but also the water safety education and drowning prevention community in New Zealand.
Designed by Matthew Williamson of Tradewinds Publishing and Halcyon Design, this invaluable formal document is presented in a familiar, easy-reading format.
The Shaping of Swimming and Water Safety Education in New Zealand Our print on demand facility enables authors to produce small runs which is perfect for niche market books.
